Hi, My name is Gabby McDonnell and I am currently a student at University of Western Sydney studying a Bachelor of Health Science. I am specialising in Health Services Management.
I graduated school in 2014 and jumped straight into a management position at Hungry Jacks. Through my success and enjoyment (most of the time) working as a Manger I made the realisation that I saw myself in a career in this field. However, something was missing. That was, the ability to be helping people everyday.
My experience working as a manager for the last 3 years was definitely a huge learning curve. I have had a phenomenal amount of experience for someone my age in communicating with a variety of people including customers, colleagues, senior management, the marketing team and of course, teenage employees. In saying that, I have increase my knowledge through the Communication in Health unit, especially being asked to reflect on my own communication skills. Reflecting taught me areas for improvement but more importantly, the content has given me the resources to tailor my communication skills in the next management environment that I want to concur, the Health Industry.
This e-portfolio will discuss the aspects of the communication unit that I would hold the most value to as a manager as how these can benefit skills when interacting with clients or patients in the future.
